The award is intended to recognise outstanding performances by the various accommodation venues on the route of this annual 3 day mountain bike stage race. The other contenders were Hawane Resort, Piggs Peak Hotel and Maguga Lodge.
“All the venues perform fantastically during the Frontier”, said Lesley Foss (organiser), “all are booked to full capacity and cater for more than 200 hungry mountain bikers, crew and supporters from all over the world. This is by no means an easy task. It takes a lot of planning and co-ordination. There are many people involved in making sure that everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable stay in Swaziland.”
The mountain bikers use a lot of energy cycling through the mountains and valleys of northern Hhohho. They are tired and hungry by the time they arrive at the venues. They need to shower, then eat, then sleep, and then they are awake as early as 4am the following morning to start all over again!
“We felt that the venues deserve some recognition for their efforts and so we have introduced this award,” said Foss, “2013 was the inaugural year and we intend to make this award every year in future”.
During the award presentation, Kurt Puttkamer of Bulembu Country Lodge said that “It is a tremendous privilege for Bulembu Country Lodge to be part of this world class cycling event every year. For Bulembu to gain exposure to such a large group of people and to be featured in the TV show about The LOGICO Swazi Frontier broadcast on DStv Super Sport is a great benefit. We appreciate the opportunity to improve our service and venue through feedback from this event. We would like to thank the organisers who arrange the Frontier with such passion for initiating this award. We are humbled that we were recognised in such a way.”
